FISHERIES  

The following activities are being taken up by Fisheries Department:-        

1) Construction of new ponds and tanks  on the beneficiaries own land with proper inlet and out let facilities and digging of shallow tube wells.

2) Reclamation / Renovation of ponds/tanks.

3) First year inputs for fish seed,  fertilizers, manures and preventive measures for fish diseases.

4) Integrated fish farming :-In this culture apart from fish  and prawn, ducks, Broilers and layers etc  are cultured.

5) For increasing fish products, it encourages procuring sectors to maintain the dissolve oxygen in the pond water.

6) Establishment of fish seed hatchery.

7) Training of fish farmers :  To educate the fish farmers to adopt the techniques for better production of fish, a 10 days training programme is being conducted. The beneficiaries are paid Rs. 60/- per day and for one day  tour Rs.100/- per beneficiary. For optimum fish production, quality seed is essential  and to ensure this Ekatali  Fish Farm has been developed with a production capacity of 15 lakhs of fish seeds.

There are five Fishery Extension officers in Jharsuguda District, one in each Block  to monitor the fishery development activities. The Fishery Extension Officers survey the areas and feasible proposals are being  submitted to District Office for preparation of Plan and Estimate for Bank Finance.
